Astoria Sidewalk Glass Earrings

from $225.00

These earrings feature fragments of amethyst-colored glass salvaged from Astoria’s sidewalks. Setting and ear wires are sterling silver.

Regular length earrings hang approximately 1” from piercing hole.

Long ear wires hang approximately 1.75” from piercing hole.

About Astoria’s historic sidewalk glass: After the great fire in 1922, Astoria had to completely rebuild the downtown area. Vaulted glass lights were installed in the sidewalks to illuminate the underground tunnels. The glass was originally colorless, but after decades of UV exposure the glass changed to an amethyst hue. In 2020, a building owner was having the damaged glass removed from the sidewalk and intended to throw it away, but I was able to salvage the fragments and turn it into a jewelry collection.
